Video Review: The Finer Things, Volume Bikes

Volume Bike’s  latest foray into the full length team DVD has been out for a while and doing the rounds but it only just fell into my lap. Filmed and edited by Mike Mastroni the website promises 60 minutes of “crazy action”, does it deliver? Well yes, and no. Whilst the riding in the film is top quality from most of the team, the biggest problem for me was the soundtrack! Mastroni has done a good job putting the video clips in the timeline in a good order, added some nice tie-die style titles and then completely fucked off any sense of individuality of the team riders and just used, apparently whatever songs popped up first in his iTunes library (its not that the music is bad, just that it doesn’t fit)! Any and all sense of drama, action or fun is lost with the soundtrack. It would have been a thousand times better had the riders music matched their personality, not Mastroni’s. That being said, the music for his section fit his look and riding perfectly, if only the rest of the team had had the same courtesy extended. Before I move on I have to mention another HUGE issue I had with the video This guy I don’t know him, I’ve never met him but the fact that 75% of his barspin tricks were caught nowhere near the grips was just fucking ridiculous. The fact that he’s not the Rodeo Peanut poster boy is shocking. Seriously Alex, stop, just stop. Or, at the least, try the fucking trick again and catch grips. That being said Jason Enns is still a God and any new footage from him is to be feared and respected, Broc Raiford is pretty fucking good on a bike and does some insane things made mundane and devoid of drama by the God awful soundtrack and a last trick that was possibly not the best thing in his part. Demarcus Paul has a stand out part and I cant wait to see a LOT more from him in the future. Final word, the soundtrack doesn’t work (for this video) and makes watching it a bit boring even though the riding is top notch. Could have been better.
